where do you start with philosophy?

answers1: Start with the area that interests you the most.
answers2: Good answers to great question. As i've heard from
Francis' little brother, start with knowing that you love.
answers3: Philosophy is 'original critical thought'; <br>
<br>
Critical Thinking Mini Lessons <br>
<a href="http://www.skepdic.com/refuge/ctlessons.html"

<br>
<br>
As opposed to the 'scholastic'; <br>
<br>
"..."philosophologists", a term coined by Robert Pirsig ("Zen and the
Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "Lila") to denote people who study
other people's philosophy but cannot do philosophy themselves. He also
says that most people who consider themselves philosophers are
actually philosophologists. The difference between a philosopher and a
philosophologist is like the difference between an art and aesthetics;
one does and the other studies what the other does and theorizes about
it."
answers4: Philosophy is the love of knowing. So you can start with
your love or passion of knowing, of better more astutely detecting the
appearance and the meaning of the world about you. <br>
<br>
Millions of words have been written and are being written about all
the aspects of philosophy, about all the theories and dreams that can
be called philosophical. <br>
<br>
You must live your life, so on the path or avenue of your own life of
now and for future you can try and be selective, you may have to try
and be selective. You can treasure the good choices and you can try
and more maturely perform in the context or domain of your choices.
<br>
<br>
You can try and do greater reflection about the meaning of knowledge
and about the meaning of wisdom, but also all the while you can try
and be more open for chances of great merry thoughtless laughs in good
company, when good loving company is there and available for you, or
more often most sublimely all on your own. <br>
<br>
The love of life and the study of philosophy can unfold together in
great good harmony. Success can be seen and enjoyed when you get in
your soul, in your eyes, in your face, in the whole of your own person
and personality, the fresher more sun-kissed glow of a healthier life.
<br>
<br>
I am not joking, not at all! Good luck with philosophy!
answers5: From food to sex only- Here is all philosophy get full
comfort and testy staying--
answers6: The starting place is in your mind. You want to learn to
think clearly, honestly, and critically. <br>
<br>
You could start here: <a
href="https://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/defining-critical-thinking/766"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>https://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/d...</a>
answers7: Philosphy begins with logic. What do we know and how do we
know it? <br>
What do we mean by what do we mean? Terms must be defined. <br>
You talk of right/wrong. What do you mean by right? The right way is
to wonder why bother? Or is that the wrong way? <br>
Read Bertrand Russell's paperback Roads To Freedom. He's not a modern
philosopher but it leads you into the subject.
answers8: Start with one question; must have patience and focus to
understand it in as much depth as possible. Its sad that most people
have to start when they feel sad and thats where it started with me.
Atheistic buddhism is where i ended. <br>
<br>
You also have to study psychology as well, thats very important.
Philosophy and psychology are interconnected, not sure how many would
agree but thats an important lesson i have learned.

Is writing a performing art or a fine art?

answers1: If you mean 'Writing' as in being a author or writing a book
that is a 'Fine Art'. Performing arts is when you have to perform them
and writing a book is not performing.
answers2: Judging from some of the WRITTEN REPORTS and JOB
APPLICATIONS that I see. I would say the WRITING is a LOST ART
answers3: Is Writing A Fine Art
answers4: It is Literary, Journalistic, or Communication Arts. (Not
'Liberal.') The part of being 'arts' would apply to skill level and
refinement, as opposed to being just artistic in expression of the
Visual Arts. <br>
<br>
In the Performing Arts (physical/ dance/musical/acting, etc.
interpretations) it could be playwright or screenwriter as a subtitle.
<br>
<br>
So, in reference to the (scholastic) degrees as having 'Letters'. The
levels of either History, Literature and the Sciences. As 'of Arts
in...'. <br>
<br>
A mixture of academic and professional entitlements. According to
either achievements or experience. <br>
<br>
p.s.: Outta touch makes a good point (at last). Gave you a thumbs up, buddy.
answers5: It's a fine art. Unless you're going to write in front of a
live audience, then it would be a performing art.

what is it like going to a performing and creative arts high school?

answers1: I am a grad of a Performing Arts H.S.. <br>
You do your regular academics then your art. Other than that it is
pretty much the same as any other high school I guess. I don't know,
because I only went to my school. <br>
I think the kids are more artistic obviously and maybe more accepting
regarding people who are different. <br>
I had a great experience and would not have traded it for anything. <br>
<br>
Btw. The school shows are WAY better than a regular High School!

Can you make a living in Performing Arts?

answers1: Just like the others, I also think it's possible for you to
make a living out of acting. I'm an aspiring singer, so I can relate
with you. xD The 'fallback plan' itself wouldn't hurt though,
considering there are quite a lot of actors/musicians these days who
didn't start their career with a similar background (eg. Carrie
Underwood studied Broadcast Journalism, Sophia Bush was a Journalism
major before she auditioned & won a part in 'One Tree Hill'). <br>
<br>
So maybe you could major in Culinary Arts while taking acting classes
outside of college at the same time. When you're ready, go ahead and
look for auditions. That's the path I'm taking. I'm going to pursue an
Associate of Arts in Advertising, but I'll keep on searching for
singing opportunities along the way and hopefully something will come
up. <br>
<br>
No matter what, keep on auditioning, because that's where you'll find
real work. Anyone can survive in the entertainment industry with or
without a relevant college degree. All it takes is the 'it' factor.
It's pretty much a gamble. But if you really give your all and put
your heart into it, believe me, you're going to go far. xD All the
best.
answers2: i wanted to go into performing arts or fine art before my
family talked me into nursing saying that even though i wanna to go
down the artsy path i should still have a "back up" plan. <br>
But i seriously believe that any career, if you truly believe in what
you do and you try your best to do it, eventually your hard work will
pay off and people will appreciate it. So yes, I do believe that you
can make a living in performing arts, it may be a far harder path than
getting into a professional school and to study to become.. say, a
lawyer, then pretty much you're guaranteed a secure job and pay. <br>
But if you really love performing arts and you know that you have the
perseverance and stick to your dream then yes!! go for it while you're
still young :-) your mom will eventually understands :-)!! <br>
ps. also know your limits tho, don't push too too hard or to follow
things blindly :-) all the best!!
answers3: Yes you must live in NYC city limits to attend any
performing arts school. You are not eligible if you do not live in the
5 boroughs.
answers4: All this talk about "if you really want it you can do it" or
"live your dream".... listen - this is reality. The performing arts
world is not a forgiving place and to make a career in it you have to
have an immense amount of talent, world class training, incredible
self determination and luck! You can have all the talent and will to
do it but unfortunately luck plays such a major role. <br>
<br>
Is there good money - no and are all actors that poor - yes.... well
the majority. You have to first ignore all the big time actors and
actresses. You cannot think of the Tom Cruises, the Brad Pitts, the
Chris Rocks.... because for every one of them there are at least a 100
who don't have jobs. The ratio of performers with good paying jobs to
those who live pay check to pay check has to be 100 - 200 to 1!!!!
<br>
<br>
You need a back up plan. In New York City, there are so many
unemployed actors/actresses and music theater wannabes. They spend
their day trying to make enough money to pay rent! Most of them wait
tables. In a city like new york where most come to pursue a
performance career, the opportunities are there but they only select a
few... and most of those jobs pay very little. Something you cannot
make a living out off. There are so many unemployed performers in the
world! <br>
<br>
It will not be an easy life! I know so many friends who struggle
month to month because they don't get enough gigs or make enough
money! I am a classical pianist, I had luck on my side and have a
successful performing career - however I have friends who are much
more talented than I and they have nothing. <br>
<br>
Its not as easy as getting your equity card and getting gigs like some
one else said. Money is money - without it you can't live and with
the way the economy is going you need more off it! You won't live in
a slum but I know people who room with 4 others in a 2 bedroom
apartment because they can't afford a place. I have heard of other
crazy arrangements for housing in NY and I know people who literally
eat 29 cent instant noodles every day because that is all they can
afford. <br>
<br>
If you make it, life can be good, if you don't life is difficult.
There are much more who live a difficult life then those who live a
healthy life as a performer. Its sad but true.
answers5: Nearly all people who make a living in the performing arts
are poor, or at least they live a very austere lifestyle. <br>
<br>
ALSO.. remember... it is called PERFORMING arts for a reason. If you
have a lot of talent and can do well in the AUDITIONS then you can
make a living, but if you don't get through the auditions, then YOU
DON'T WORK.
answers6: I want to be an actress and a singer and it has been a dream
for the longest time! And I am going to try and persue it too! The
only person you should really be listening to, is yourself. Some
actors are unemployed because they dont take the risks they should,
they are uncomfortable with something, they have a bad agent, they
didnt have enough pratcice with it or they just do live in the right
area. In order to get paid good money, you would have to be quite well
known. In order to become well known, you need to work very hard. You
need to take every chance you can get, go to auditions all the time,
maybe move somewhere where you can really persue it, like New York or
Los Angeles. The majority of movies and shows are filmed in those
places along with celebrities living there and good agents and loads
of auditions to try out! Not all actors are poor, the ones we hear of
today in the movies and in television shows are not poor at all, not
even close. But other actors that are struggeling or just starting,
may not have enough money to even pay off rent, so most have another
job. I may not all be right, but I am just saying what people have
told me! But anyone can do it, which means so can you! All you need to
do is work hard, take every oppertunity and get practice! Good luck!
answers7: I have dwelt on this issue from an Indian perspective in my
e-zine. I will quote from that article: <br>
It has become a matter of great concern amongst theatre lovers of
Delhi as to whether amateur theatre will survive in the coming
decades. An occasional performance in a packed auditorium builds up
expectations of resurgence in the amateur theatre movement. In Mumbai
and Kolkata there have been traditional theatre audiences. People do
buy tickets and actors do get paid in those cities. About Delhi, one
can say that the only culture that interests the city dwellers is
either horticulture or page-three-party-culture. However, boredom with
television has also led to some audience revival. But will Amateur
theatre be able to support this need for cultural gratification from
live performances? In the seventies and early eighties the actors who
populated amateur theatre groups were intellectuals or radicals. Badal
Sircar's influence was strong and street theatre movement was at its
peak. The NSD actors after graduation were doing theatre and the
combination of intellectual amateurs and NSD full timer was deadly
and imbued vitality to the atmosphere. Street corner discussions at
the NSD fruit shop and late night discussions over a glass of beer or
a peg of rum was the order of the day. Even JNU and Delhi University
were pumping in radically oriented and committed theatre people,
audiences were growing. Spirits were really high. Those were really
happy times. But then came the onslaught of television and cinema.
What started as a trickle with the departure of Shiv Puri, Om Puri,
Naseerudin Shah and Raj Babbar, became an exodus as Sudhir & Sudhanshu
Mishra, Neena Gupta, Alok Nath, Sushmita Mukherjee, Ravi Baswani,
Lalit Tiwari, Manohar Singh, Surekha Sikri, Ratna Pathak, Pankaj
Kapoor, Ranjit Kapoor, Anu Kapoor and so many others trooped out of
India Gate (New Delhi)and flooded into Gateway of India (Bombay).
That's because they were not able to earn a living from theatre. I
used to believe that things were better in the western countries, but
I think it is the same everywhere. As a well known Indian saint had
said " You cannot pray on an empty stomach" The same holds true for
performing arts. You can read the full article on the following URL:
answers8: if you go to school and get a degree in what your doing. and
if you know what your doing, then yes. you need to know your way
around hollywood. who should you be making deals with and such. but
yes, it is possible.
answers9: Being a working actress doesn't necessarily mean you're
going to be a poor bohemian artist suffering or your work. Seriously,
it is actually quite easy to make a decent enough living, especially
if you're in stage and get signed as a player to a theater. Become a
member of the union and you'll be able to get jobs that will pay you
enough to live on.
answers10: I agree with the advice Chinese Cowboy gave you. <br>
You can pursue your dreams, but you need a back up plan. Get a paying
job and try out for plays. Take acting classes. <br>
I write operas. <br>
On the average, it takes a year and a half to two years to complete. <br>
I know where mine are being performed. If you didn't have an in, that
would be another obstacle. <br>
Make sure that the goals you make for yourself are realistic. Good luck.

free employment history?

answers1: What do you think that is? Some website that tracks
everyone's employment through the years? No such thing. Free or
otherwise. If you don't know your own employment history - go through
your tax returns. The W2 for each year will tell you where you worked.
Or - most people know their own employment history. And again - no
such thing if you are looking for someone else's employment history.
answers2: OK, so make a list of everyplace you've worked. That's the only way.
answers3: No such thing unless you kept a record of it or you are
applying for a government job, passed the bar and going to be sworn
in, doctor... etc.... You can order your credit history report, but
unlikely all jobs are posted on it.

A.P. US History?

answers1: If you mean the telling of history, then there is no better
quote then this anonymous one that says: "Those who fail to remember
history, are doomed to repeat it." <br>
<br>
We need history, and historians, to share the triumphs, tragedies,
successes and failures throughout recorded time. It is a constant need
to be reminded of how many times the cycle has been completed in
different historical events. Each event may differ to some degree, but
in the end they are very similar(see Hitler and Saddam). <br>
<br>
History must be told so that someday, if the right people should ever
come to power all at once who were taught and understand how to avoid
conflict, we may one day acheive world peace, if even for a few short
days, weeks, or months.
answers2: Good old APUSH... <br>
<br>
Gotta D in that class, but I'm betting its something like... the human
need to record the past...
answers3: next year as a junior, i am taking both ap us history and ap
us government. at my school, which has block scheduling (4 classes a
day 1.5 hours each) ap us history is 3 terms and ap us government is a
semester. i think that taking both together will help you have a
better understanding of us history and government. however, ap us
government is usually a senior class. the reason why i am taking it as
a junior is because ap us government is only offered every other year.
so, if i didn't take it this year i wouldn't be able to take it all.
although it will take a lot of effort to succeed in these courses i
believe it is worth the time, especially if you say you are interested
in the ap government. if you aren't as interested in the ap us
history, think of it as a class that will help you do even better in
ap government.

Do Catholics think the genealogy of Jesus is true?

answers1: What made Jesus divine was His Father, God. What made Him
human was His mother, Mary, a human being, a member of a specific
population of humans who had gradually evolved from their ancient
ancestors just like anyone else. So yes, the genealogy of Jesus is
true just like the genealogy of His mother or any other human being.
Why wouldn't it be? <br>
<br>
Catholic deacon, biologist
answers2: Yes I do, and I don't accept evolution.
answers3: Nobody who believes the bible can admit evolution without a
paradox. <br>
If one is true, the other can not be. <br>
Which is why christians deny simple facts that debunk their book of
pretend and power.
answers4: Yes we know the genealogy of Jesus is true. <br>
<br>
The Church holds that evolution is not at odds with a belief in God.
This does not mean that we believe the Darwin Theory of Evolution.

What are some websites that are good for genealogy?

answers1: You should look at the resolved questions. Either browse
them or use the advanced search at least three times, for the words
<br>
<br>
Free family tree <br>
free family history <br>
free ancestry <br>
<br>
People ask the same basic question, "How can I find my family tree,
for free?" 3 - 14 times a day here. 9 of us top 10 have stock answers.
(One of the 10 is retired.) After 2 - 4 of us paste our stock answer,
the rest don't bother. All 9 stock answers are well worth reading. All
9 of us are warm, wise, witty, well-read and, above all, devilishly
handsome. We have quite a bit of overlap on our favorite links, but we
emphasize different aspects of the hunt in our advice. <br>
<br>
Here is my stock answer: <br>
<br>
There are over 400,000 free genealogy sites. Among them (without http://) <br>
<br>
www.cyndislist.com - 250,000 links, all categorized. <br>
www.familysearch.org - The Mormons. Gazillions of records. <br>
wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com - Roots Web World Connect - 600,000,000+ entries <br>
usgenweb.org - Sites for every county in every state in the USA <br>
ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com - Social Security Death Index, 83 million names <br>
vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/ - California Death Index,
9,366,786 records <br>
www.findagrave.com - 53 million records <br>
genforum.genealogy.com - Query boards for every county in every state,
and thousands of surnames. <br>
boards.ancestry.com - The other Query board site; counties and
surnames too. <br>
archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com Roots Web Mailing List Archive - Over
30 million messages <br>
<br>
I have a page with real links to all of those, but you'll have to wade
through some advice and warnings first. <br>
<br>
If you didn't mention a country, and you didn't go into Yahoo! by one
of their international sub-sites, we can't tell if you are in the USA,
UK, Canada or Australia. I'm in the USA and my links are for it. <br>
<br>
If you are in the USA, <br>
AND most of your ancestors were in the USA, <br>
AND you can get to a library or FHC with census access, <br>
AND you are white <br>
Then you can get most of your ancestors who were alive in 1850 with
100 - 300 hours of research. You can only get to 1870 if you are
black, sadly. Many people stop reading here and pick another hobby.
<br>
<br>
No web site is going to tell you how your great grandparents decorated
the Christmas tree with ornaments cut from tin foil during the
depression, how Great Uncle Elmer wooed his wife with a banjo, or how
Uncle John paid his way through college in the 1960's by smuggling
herbs. Talk to your living relatives before it is too late. <br>
<br>
You won't find living people on genealogy sites. You'll have to get
back to people living in 1930 or so by talking to relatives, looking
up obituaries and so forth. <br>
<br>
Finally, not everything you read on the internet is true. You have to
be cautious and look at people's sources. Cross-check and verify.
<br>
<br>
So much for the warnings. Here is the main link. <br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.tedpack.org/yagenlinks.html"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.tedpack.org/yagenlinks.html</a>
<br>
<br>
That page has links, plus tips and hints on how to use the sites, for
a dozen huge free sites. Having one link here in the answer and a
dozen links on my personal site gets around two problems. First, Y!A
limits us to 10 links in an answer. Second, if one or more of the
links are popular, I get "We're taking a breather" when I try to post
the answer. This is a bug introduced sometime in August 2008 with the
"new look". <br>
<br>
You will need the tips. Just for instance, most beginners either put
too much data into the RWWC query page, or they mistake the Ancestry
ads at the top for the query form. I used to teach a class on Internet
Genealogy at the library. I watched the mistakes beginners made. The
query forms on the sites are tricky.
answers2: Ancestry.com. Familysearch.org.
answers3: There is no single answer; the best site for one person
doesn't even work for another. Which is why you need to try various
sites. <br>
<br>
Go to www.cyndislist.com, run through the list a bit and see what
appeals to you re matching your particular ancestry. <br>
<br>
And click above where it says "Search Y! Answers".
answers4: The ones that have YOUR ANCESTOR. <br>
There are thousands of sites, most are free. <br>
Focus your search analysis. Instead of looking for family trees...LOOK
FOR FACTS about your ancestor. <br>
Maybe you need a death cert from Illinois. A tombstone from Missouri.
Birth certificates from West Virginia. A Civil War document. <br>
Instead of the website doing the thinking for you...think what it is
that you need, and ask here or google (and yes, google itself is a
"genealogy" site, if you know how to phrase your search term). <br>
There is no one best site. All genealogy is not online (but you can
use it to find offline sources of info, too). <br>
Keep your mind open to broader possibilities, and be ready to have
many bookmarks.
answers5: Depends on what you are looking for, who and in what
country..................there are many good websites BUT websites are
only a tool to use not the whole toolbox and you need to check
anything and everything back to records that you find on ANY website
as most are 'collected' data and transcriptions and most have NO
citing whatsoever so can only be used as a clue and a website or
collection number is NOT a cited record <br>
<br>
If you are starting your family history then <a
href="http://familytimeline.webs.com/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://familytimeline.webs.com/</a> and the
links page will give you some of the better websites.....but the
library, the local records centre and family history centre are more
useful and contain REAL records which are
cited......................................

"Whiddon/Whidden Early History" <br>
Five centuries before Martin Luther mailed 95 Theses to the door of
the Schlosskirche, Wittenberg, the capital of the little duchy of
Saxe-Wittenberg, was the home of the Wittens. It is probably that the
prestige of this family led to the area's name. In the ninth century
members of the Witten family left their homeland and emigrated to
England. Some of them settled in Yorkshire; others moved down into
Devonshire and made their homes by the sea. <br>
Even in England the family is considered of ancient origin and is
mentioned in the Mabinogion, a Welsh manuscript of the 14th century,
the Red Book of Hergest. The English have spelled the name in various
ways: Witten, Whitten, Whyddon, Whiddon, and even Whydn. <br>
Chagford, which is in Devonshire, is in the heart of the moors.
Before the conquest in 1066, Chagford was held by Dodo the Saxon. The
manor belonged to Hugh of Chagford, but in the time of Queen Mary
(1533-1555) it became the property of Sir John Whiddon and remained in
the family for several descents. During this period the Whiddons,
other than Sir John, occupied their property, Whiddon Park, situated
about a mile from town. <br>
The house is in Chagford, but the Park is in Moreton Hampstead.
This interesting and fine old seat has preserved the memory of the
Whiddon family, which has been extinct in Chagford for two hundred
years." <br>

Pronounciation of Whidden: Hidden behind a 'W'. <br>
Origin of the Surname: known in England, Scotland and Ireland from
about 1200 A.D. Sir John Whyddon lived in Chagford in Devonshire,
England. <br>

WHYDDON arms: <br>
"Argent a chevron between three spear-heads. gules. Crest. on a
torse argent and gules a black swan. beak or. sitting in a Coronet."
<br>
The torse is that of an esquire, though Sir John Whiddon was
knighted in 1555 and later his grandson was also knighted. The Arms
bear no motto, though one is attributed to the family - "Rarest of
birds of the earth", referring to the Black Swan. <br>
For service to the Queen, he was given an addition to his coat of
arms: a black swan, sitting in the crown, with a golden bill and the
motto "Rara avis in terris, nigrog; simillima Cygno" or "Rarest of
bird of the earth, -- Swan". <br>
A second arms in the parish church shows two quarterings (upper
left and lower right) of Sir John's arms with spears and two
quarterings (upper right and lower left) of a white shield with red
chevron and three black swans in the same positions of the spears.

The Three Crowns Hotel occupies a very significant position in the
history of Chagford. The building itself dates back to the 13th
century and was once the home of the Whyddon family who lived in
Chagford for several centuries, including Sir John Whyddon who was a
Justice of the King's Bench in the mid 16th century. (There is a
picture of it on the website) <br>
It was one of Sir John's descendants, Mary Whyddon who became a
legend in Chagford following her death in 1641, shot on her wedding
day as she returned from the church to her family home. <br>

answers2: Genealogy basic... <br>
NEVER NEVER NEVER look for the "first known" Whiddon or anyone else,
then try to work from that person to yourself. <br>
Genealogy works the other way... from you, back in time. You identify
your parents (hint.. mom is not a Whiddon). Then you identify the
parents of your parents (only one of them is a Whiddon). ALWAYS use
reputable documentation, each step of the way. <br>
Never research a surname. All Landrums (Whiddons, Forbes, so forth)
are not going to be related. Research a PERSON. If your grandmother is
Mary Landrum.. the only Landrum to be involved is her father and
mother (who again.. is only a Landrum by marriage). <br>
Trying to go the direction you are headed, is completely contrary to
solid research. Among many examples of why.. what would you do if you
spent 4 yrs on early Whiddons.. then find out that your gr grandfather
was adopted, and really was a Smith by birth? <br>
Without the "right" process, you are almost guaranteed to hang
yourself on information that is not connected to YOU. <br>
These are basics.
answers3: HI Wes, <br>
<br>
<br>
Start from what you know about you family. It is important to verify
the information from various vital records, because of name duplicates
and name changes. People used to change the spelling of surnames at
will, at least in my family. And- many especially the French used
"dit" names back in the 17 the and 18th centuries just to confuse the
family historian more. <br>
<br>
Google genealogy sites like LDS and Rootsweb sites . They have lots
of free stuff. Ancestry is a great site, they have some free
information, but it is mostly subscription. Look up Census, Land
records, Birth, death and marriage, military, historical sites ets.
Doing family history is sort of life being a detective and it can
gedt addictive. <br>
There are lots of great genealogy groups online, where people are glad
to do some look ups. <br>
I found one whole family line going back 16 generations on the web
from someone who did all the research. <br>
<br>
Good luck

Are there any good genealogy sites that don't charge?

answers1: See what you think about these. I had oodles of genealogy
finished and lost them in a flood. That was before my Internet days.
My aunt who had everything on our family died and I'm hopelessly lost
back to the start.
answers2: there are some good answers above. <br>
<br>
The bottom line is that there is no website subscription based or
otherwise that can fulfill all of your genealogy needs. You will find
lots of useful information out there if you just know where to look.
I could give you a list of the big genealogy websites, but something
tells me that you are looking for something specific. I have over
500 links to free genealogy records that I myself have found online.
Here are some that can help just about everyone. <br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/f..."
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/f...</a>
This is the webpage to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. <br>
<br>
<a href="http://searches.rootsweb.com/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://searches.rootsweb.com/</a> <br>
This is a list of popular searchable databases on Rootsweb. There is a
link to the Social Security Death index, as well as death records for
California, Kentucky, Maine, and Texas. There are some international
databases included too. <br>
<br>
<a href="http://www.ellisisland.org/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.ellisisland.org/</a> <br>
If you are from the United States and know that you have ancestors
that immigrated from other countries, there is a chance that Ellis
Islands website could help you. You can actually look at the ships
manifests on this site. It is so cool! You could even get information
like how much money was in your great grandfathers pocket when he came
over. <br>
<br>
Then there are the message boards at both Genforum and Rootsweb. They
have boards for surnames, counties, States, and countries. This would
be a great place to post information you already know about family
members and attempt to build on it. It is always wise not to post
information on living family members. <br>
<br>
http://boards.ancestry.com/default.aspx <br>
http://genforum.genealogy.com/ <br>
<br>
You can also look at many of the existing trees out there to see if
anybody has created one including members or your families. Sometimes
you get lucky, but if you find one out there, I would recommend
researching the information yourself before including it in your tree.
<br>
<br>
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ <br>
http://www.gencircles.com/ <br>
<br>
Just about every state and county has its own Genweb page. Here is
the website to the U.S. page <br>
<br>
http://www.usgenweb.org/ <br>
<br>
Simply click on the appropriate state and county links to get to the
localities you wish to search. Keep in mind, each page is only as
good as its volunteers. The free genealogy sites online is entirely
dependant on volunteers to share information and records that are
available in its localities, which is why it is always important to
thank a volunteer when they help you overcome another genealogy
barrier. <br>
<br>
If I knew where you were from, I could probably give you more area
specific links, therefore, if you would like to send me some
information via my profile I may be able to help you further. <br>
<br>
So, as you can see from my answer... there is a whole lot to learn
about genealogy and finding resources. I learned just by jumping in
and doing it. Once you get out in the genealogy community you will see
that there are a lot of people eager to help you in any way they can.
Have I made mistakes along the way? You bet... who hasn't? You will
find though that the rewards are numerous and that it can get quite
addicting. Blessings.
answers3: There are a kazillion sites out there that are free, and
have info for research. Many "new" people coming on board hope to find
a site that has their ancestry all put together, instead of
understanding that it is a compillation of pieces. In other words..a
library online might have a bio of your ancestor, but it isn't
technically a "genealogy" site. I always suggest www.cyndislist.com
as a place to get some idea of the many thousands of sites that exist,
and also have how to files. <br>
As for your family not talking... some comments. Basic research does
normally start with you, your parents, grandparents, then BUILDING on
that to look in historical records. If and when there is hostility, or
feuds, so forth, it is not surprising that many people avoid talking
about things that are hurtful. Many people today come from single
parent homes, and what I am saying, is not to be judgemental. Just
realistic. Emotions are part of "recent" family questions, whereas
once you reach the point of people who died long ago, that evaporates.
<br>
IN most cases, you will not find specifics on persons who are living
online, which really is a security and privacy issue. I don't want
someone finding "me", knowing who my parents were, etc... ONLINE. LIke
most people, I personally want the decision of who I share that with.
That, of course, is difficult for persons (for example) who are
adopted, or don't have knowledge of a biological father. And the bio
fathers, in many cases, don't know about their kids or don't want
contact. <br>
So, it is always a good idea to recognize the reasons, and be tactful,
in looking for the information. If you can identify grandparents who
have died (or gr grandparents), they are PROBABLY in THE SOCIAL
SECURITY DEATH INDEX (assuming you live in the US). Once you pick up
that lead, you go from there. <br>
I always ask persons to consider this- where and how would you find
the records, IF there is no one living to provide it? The answer is
going to the available records, because that's what research is,
anyway. It is finding what others DON'T know. <br>
Hope it helps to know that you really are not alone in this. You can
reach me via email on my profile, and I'd be happy to chat off-board
on specifics of what you need and some ideas how to get it, without it
being a confrontation.
answers4: Not that I've found. Cyndislist only goes so far.

Why can't I fid my genealogy?

answers1: 1. You need to understand that one researches one's
genealogy (family tree/family history) and creates one's family tree
from the information found. You start that research by looking through
and looking for your own family records and documents, including your
birth certificate, birth certificates for your parents, birth and/or
death certificates for grand parents, wedding/marriage records for
your parents, grand parents, etc., baptismal/christening records,
census records (in the USA - 1930 census and earlier), etc. <br>
<br>
2. To help you understand how to conduct your research I recommend the
guide here: <br>
<a href="http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/</a>
<br>
Be sure to read the info in the General Subjects links. <br>
<br>
3. Find out the public library location of the main genealogy
collection in your local public library system/network, including the
hours of service, and go there. Talk with a reference librarian in the
genealogy dept. He/she will be able to guide you to good print and
electronic resources for your research. <br>
<br>
4. Depending upon your ethnic ancestry and where your immediate
ancestors came from, you may have various degrees of ease or
difficulty in finding your family history. Example: If both sets of
your grandparents came from Uzbekistan, then, right now, it may be
difficult to find family records in the USA and you would need to
travel to Uzbekistan (and be able to read Uzbek or Russian) and
research your family history there. <br>
<br>
Once you know more about the process, you may be able to find more
family history for your genealogy. <br>
<br>
Best wishes
answers2: You absolutely CANNOT find your ancestors just by jumping
around looking for someone with your surname. The only way you can
find out your genealogy, your ahnentafel, is to start with yourself
and work backwards, one generation at a time. So, dig out your birth
certificate and see who is listed as your parents; find their birth
certificates and find out who their parents were, on back to about the
mid-1800s for the U.S. and England. Most countries did not have BMD
(birth/marriage/death) records that far back. <br>
<br>
Ancestry.com and the Mormons claim to have hundreds of millions of
names in their data banks. The problem is, there are about 7 Billion
living humans; altogether, modern man totals about 84 Billion persons.
(World population has nearly tripled in my lifetime.) <br>
<br>
The best sources, the most accurate, are the libraries and
historical/genealogical societies. Add to that the LOC (Library of
Congress) and State/Uniiverties, such as in Ohio, New York, Virginia,
and Alabama have genealogical archives that cover the U.S., Canada,
and the Carribean, including the Cherokee and other Eastern Indians.
<br>
<br>
So, for names, etc., dig, dig, dig. If you need confirmation or just
want to know where your ancestors came from, go to
www.familytreedna.com and submit DNA samples.
answers3: Genealogies are not found, they must be researched; that is
why you can't find you genealogy. <br>
<br>
There is an excellent tutorial for those who are new to family
research at <a href="http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/</a> ;
everyone starting out in genealogy should understand the basics and
this tutorial covers them. After you complete the tutorial, the
following is a basic plan and generally only requires the tools that
you already have like your computer and Internet service provider.
<br>
<br>
So, start with your birth certificate, which has your parents, and
then ask your parents for copies of their birth certificates, which
will have your grandparents on them. Then if you grandparents are
living, continue the process. At some point, you will experience a
problem depending on when you grandparents or great grandparents were
born, in that; birth certificate records for the 19th century are not
found in all states. Also, you need to get back to 1930 with personal
records because those types of records are not available to the public
for 50 to 100 years depending on the jurisdiction in which they are
held and census records which are quite valuable in tracing our
ancestor's movements are not available before 1930 at this time. <br>
<br>
By copying or ordering these documents, you have gone to relatively
little expense and including you, you have four generations and you
have it documented with primary documents. That will give you 2
parents, 4 grandparents, and 8 great grandparents' names to start
researching. Now, you are ready to use the Internet websites and can
use death certificates, marriage records, census records, immigration
records, church records, court records and many other sources to
research your ancestry. Your public libraries will most likely have
both Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest free for anyone to use while at
the library and with a library card you should be able to use Heritage
Quest at home. <br>
<br>
Another free online resource is the LDS/Mormon site, which has many
free online records and original documents at <a
href="https://www.familysearch.org/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>https://www.familysearch.org/</a> In
addition to their online records, they have Family History Centers
where you can go for personalized help with research and look at
microfilm and while they will not do your research for you they will
help you, a lot. They only charge if they have to order something
specifically for you or you need photocopies and their charges are
minimal. Look on the home page of their website to find a location
near you and call to check hours of operation. <a
href="http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Home/Welcome/home.asp"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Home/Wel...</a>
…this website is also where the Social Security Death Index is
located, click on advanced search look on left hand side for Social
Security Death Index. <br>
<br>
Additionally, USGen Web is another free online resource at
http://www.usgenweb.org/ . This site is packed with how-to tips,
queries and records for every state and most counties within those
states. Then, there is Rootsweb at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ a
free site hosted by Ancestry.com where you can search for surnames,
post queries on the message boards and subscribe to surname mailing
lists. This is also where you will find RootsWeb World Connect, where
people upload their family trees which are also searchable. <br>
<br>
Also, be sure to check each state that you need information from as
many have their own projects, for example, the state of Missouri has a
great website that has many free source documents online at
http://www.sos.mo.gov/mdh/ and South Carolina has many free wills and
other court documents at
http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/search.aspx <br>
<br>
Also, Family Tree Magazine's 101 Best Websites, 2010
http://familytreemagazine.com/article/101-Best-Websites-2010 . You may
have to register for their free newsletter to access this list but you
will find that helpful also as they highlight new methods for
researching and new websites in every edition. <br>
<br>
And the only site that is included on this list which has some links
that are free and some that are fee is Cyndi's List but it will be
well worth your time to look through the list for the free websites
because of their quality: http://www.cyndislist.com/ <br>
<br>
Also, you can come back here for help with specific questions.

Does it hurt the author to buy a used book?

answers1: obviously they get nothing out of you buying a used book. If
you buy a new book they get the royalties. Isn't this quite obvious?
answers2: Authors receive no royalties on used books. <br>
<br>
~Dr. B.~
answers3: An author doesn't get royalties on a used book, but
obviously, someone bought that book new at some point, so the author
got the royalties they were due. You haven't stolen anything from them
by buying a used book (whereas if you download a book illegally, it's
no different to stealing). <br>
<br>
Buying a book used is no different from buying anything else used.
It's perfectly legal. <br>
<br>
Although the author gets no royalties from a used book, most authors
are very supportive of used bookshops and actually buy a lot books
from them. There is a town in the UK, Hay-on-Wye, which is famous for
its used bookstores - there are several on every street. And for this
reason, it's home to one of the most important literary festivals in
the world every year - authors flock there for the festival and often
praise the used bookstores. Essentially, most authors like to see
people reading, provided you're not actually stealing from them (by
downloading books illegally or stealing from a bookshop), and appear
to be supportive of the used book industry.
answers4: If it's used then the author already got royalties from the
book. You're allowed to sell your used books or let others borrow them
(like the library). <br>
<br>
The only time the author will not get paid is if the book is stolen or
had illegally.
answers5: Thats a link to his books, u can buy them off amazon. Hope
this helps x
answers6: The author doesn't get royalties for it. However, since the
biggest reason readers decide to buy a particular book is that they've
read and enjoyed another book by the same author, it does them good in
the long run.

Should I list my favorite books or authors?

answers1: It depends, if you like all the works of that author equally
you could respond with the author's name or "all the books by...", or
if you like a particular series of books you could respond "the
Diskworld series" for example. <br>
<br>
<br>
Alternatively, if you really liked one book by and author, and thought
the rest were ok, but not as good, you're better off saying you liked
this book by this author, which also shows discretion and is more
accurate than just saying you liked the author.
answers2: Best to give the title of the book as well as the author,
because there are several novels out there with the same title,
different story and also - of course - different author.

Is there a place like torrent site for e-books?

answers1: All torrent sites are for anything: movies, games, apps,
ebooks. There simply aren't a lot of ebooks because people don't read
one tenth as much as they watch vids and play games. Even when people
buy ebooks, they rarely take the time to convert then to PDF and put
them out as torrent. <br>
<br>
You will have better luck with unsearchable file sharing sites such as
Rapidshare. You just have to find the share URL, since these types of
sites are not searchable.
answers2: I think ebooks are only direct downloads cause most books
are less than 2mbs, anyways i recently downloaded Life of Pi from
4shared and i got there with a Google search. <br>
A site that gives you books that aren't protected from copyrights in a
lot of different formats is this one. I got Dante's inferno of of this
one. http://www.manybooks.net/ <br>
Good Luck
answers3: thepiratebay.org actually has e-books.
