Does it hurt the author to buy a used book?

answers1: obviously they get nothing out of you buying a used book. If
you buy a new book they get the royalties. Isn't this quite obvious?

answers3: An author doesn't get royalties on a used book, but
obviously, someone bought that book new at some point, so the author
got the royalties they were due. You haven't stolen anything from them
by buying a used book (whereas if you download a book illegally, it's
no different to stealing).
Buying a book used is no different from buying anything else used.
It's perfectly legal.
Although the author gets no royalties from a used book, most authors
are very supportive of used bookshops and actually buy a lot books
from them. There is a town in the UK, Hay-on-Wye, which is famous for
its used bookstores - there are several on every street. And for this
reason, it's home to one of the most important literary festivals in
the world every year - authors flock there for the festival and often
praise the used bookstores. Essentially, most authors like to see
people reading, provided you're not actually stealing from them (by
downloading books illegally or stealing from a bookshop), and appear
to be supportive of the used book industry.
answers4: If it's used then the author already got royalties from the
book. You're allowed to sell your used books or let others borrow them
(like the library).
The only time the author will not get paid is if the book is stolen or
had illegally.
answers5: Thats a link to his books, u can buy them off amazon. Hope
this helps x
answers6: The author doesn't get royalties for it. However, since the
biggest reason readers decide to buy a particular book is that they've
read and enjoyed another book by the same author, it does them good in
the long run.
