Poetry is great because of the beautiful words and the flow of the words in a sentence and stanza. It can rhyme. You don't want your poetry to be choppy. To start, write down the feelings towards your friends death. Do you feel sad? Depressed? Angry? Be creative. Look up in a thesaurus different words for your feelings, more professional.
