Is this in any way practical for a first car?

Arleen Bussing: The link to one of the vehicles in question is here. http://www.barnfineclassics.com/inventory/1960-cad...

Adelle Weight: Wow, what a beautiful car! However it's not practical. Especially for your first car. The good I see coming from it is that you will have the nicest car for a kid your age. That being said, the upkeep o it will be crazy. Original parts, when something breaks are really hard to find and using aftermarket parts really diminishes the value of the car. This Cadillac is more of a Sunday Driver car, not an everyday driver. If you really have your eyes set on a classic daily driver car, I would look more into the 70's and 80's cars. They will be more practical and reliable. Plus some are just drop dead gorgeous.Keep looking! I am sure you will find the perfect vehicle that suits your needs and wants. Good Luck!...Show more

Wilbur Marksberry: P.S., I am not actually considering buying a car for at least an year, but I would REALLY lo! ve to drive a classic like this one. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Branden Roddick: First off, that sounds like a great car if its in the shape you say. But....If you use a car like that for a daily driver, it won't last long. Older cars are more fragile and require far more maintenance than their modern counterparts. If you want to do this, you are committing yourself to keeping the car in good running order, which will be far more time consuming than a modern car would. Also, you can't just buy parts for a car like that at autozone. They will be more expensive and harder to find....Show more
