Two part question regarding motorcycle clubs and riding clubs?

Catheryn Barringer: Yes sometimes dominate motorcycle clubs take over smaller clubs. Riding clubs are never absorbed into a motorcycle club. No, support clubs do not claim the same territory as the dominate club does. Read this for some more information

Wilburn Denice: The GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association) is the largest single marque social riders club with 72,000 members and 800 chapters.HOG (Harley Owners Group) is huge but is not a specific model group and a manufactures brand group Point, you can divide riders into several classes of groups even the so-called gangs. One percenter and even Outlaw and Gang are words that better describe specifically your question and not "club".Some are highly organized and others are loosely held together and flighty. Some are established and structured organizations as old as 1935. Some are regional/local, some attached, some are ethnic based, some even change affiliations. Some are as small as a few members within a se! ction of small town within a larger metro area.Recently an alleged gang was busted nationwide for drug trafficking, kidnapping, and other crimes by the FBI. The so-called "Wheels of Soul" while gang like perception wise, it is not quite the stereotypical perception of long beards, Harley riding, rough, tough, dusty road worn looking bike gang image. So if you want a text book portrayal that fits the public perception that's one thing. Fiction/fantasy. If you want reality? Do better research? Sometimes the life surrounding a particular character linked to such a group is more of a story then a group or organization. Donnie Brasco (Al Pacino/Johnny Depp) is one of the best accounts to portray the underworld in reality and in non-Hollywood public perception style. The recent movie "The Fighter" with Christian Bale with Mark Whalberg portraying the life of Mickey Ward is a great example of portraying "real" people as they really are in a real world...... if you are just creatin! g a character to fit the public fantasy then so be it and good! luck with that pulp..........Show more

Shawnna Kusky: Well, you are correct that there are MC's and Riders Clubs. The American Legion Riders is the largest Riders Club. In their Charter it specifically says they are not an MC and do not adhere to MC rules nor do they have territories. MC's like 1%ers, Hell's Angels, Mongoose and others have territories that they defend. There is a certain lifestyle with MC's that tend to keep members of those clubs on police radar. MC's make all sorts of agreements with each other. One may agree not to socialize with another and agree to certain rules about when and where they ride and hang out. If you want that bad boy biker lifestyle you want to join an MC. If you enjoy riding and want to ride with other people that also like to ride. But, then want to have a life outside of riding. Then join a riding club. There are many to chose from. The Christian Motorcycle Association is one just about anybody can join....Show more!
