Run optical to this and plug in a headphone jack until you can afford speakers.There are pre-amp box's that has all the electronics but no amplification that will also do what you want - but these are a few hundred bucks and you wont be able to hook up headphones. It all depends on what the originating device is has been configured to output.B: there are devices that can take the optical/coaxial digital output and convert that to 6 channel audio. They are not all that cheap though, which is why most people just buy a! nd A/V receiver that has the decoder and amplifier packaged to! gether.
