when someone gives you a reference..?

Ilana Gaster: Reference is basically a letter given by your HR Manager or your Employer saying your dedication to work or basically praising you. You can write on your resume, that reference available upon request. If your new employer/interviewer wants to see the letter you give it to them. Make extra copies of this document, don't give the original. Another type of reference is like a work history with the name of your employer, company name and phone number. So your could-be employer could phone your previous employer and ask about how you worked, etc. This kind of references can be put on your resume as work history/references. Hope i helped....Show more
